Shaping your life as a writer
Writer's Retreat
Write about yourself and your community... so that others want to read it! This is the heart of this collaborative residency: memoir and personal essay.

The self-paced program will share tips, prompts, exercises, readings and challenges to help every writer imagine, construct and write compelling pieces of non-fiction's most popular form: the personal narrative. Through various writing assignments across the five months, and from reading the work of others, participants will develop a toolset to write the story of their life. You will collect a portfolio of work that you can use as components of your memoir or essay.

Join us online on every 3rd Wednesday 2 p.m. - 4 p.m. PDT, for a Zoom session with our writer-in-residence & journalist Lucas Lee.

Note: A Zoom link will be emailed to you one day before the sessions you have registered for.

Program in detail:

(1) Our Writer-in-Residence and course mentor, Lucas Lee will send out a monthly newsletter with some recommended readings and writing prompts in the beginning of each month. You can also submit your proposal to your mentor and identify how to communicate about the edits prior to a monthly group review session. Please allow enough time to coordinate with when your mentor is available to review your draft.

(2) Attend monthly a 2-hr. ZOOM session with the mentor and peer writers within the intimate group setting. This is a great opportunity to further get feedback and develop your manuscript.
(3) Repeat (1) and (2) each month. The mentorship will involve an edit of your second draft. In March 2021, you will submit a short essay as a culmination of the program participation.
