Illustrated Neighbouhood Street
Every person has a story worth telling. Every story is worth passing down to future generations.

Neighbourhood Stories

Storytelling has been shown to improve the wellbeing of both older and younger generations.

Neighbourhood Stories invites older adults (55+) to collaborate with youth (13-22) in pairs or small groups to tell their stories through a video (with photos, music, whiteboard sketches, interviews, etc.) using software such as Adobe Spark, iMovie, or Animatron (for animations). No previous experience with software required; doing the editing is also optional.

Think about places, people, and other things that have shaped you as a person. From reflecting on the past to making the script to, if desired, doing the video editing, produce an engaging and creative video while connecting with different generations.

Youth will serve as the story collector and learn to conduct narrative interviews, improving their listening skills while benefiting from the perspectives of a mature individual.

Older adults will present their stories, achievements and lessons learned for future generations to learn from.

Monthly Zoom sessions will be facilitated every second Wednesday by artist-in-residence Sophia Bi, who will provide guidance. Attend one or more of the sessions as you wish. Click on register and select your dates.

Vancouver Wabi Sabi

map

Vancouver Wabi Sabi is an intergenerational project of the Vancouver Arts Colloquium Society. It aims to enrich our sense of place and protect the diversity of cultural ecology in Vancouver by keeping a fragile aesthetic ideology alive in any form of personal expression available - incomplete, impermanent, emerging, decaying, elusive, intimate, complex and simple. We explore the fluid depths and empty spaces around us to see the beauty and life in everything. The project hopefully binds and elevates the elements into a meaningful whole, the very beautiful existence.
