Summer 2020 Welcome Video

Origins

The original FLAP was a two-week summer program in August of 2020. It fostered a warm community of fellows from around the world. During the program, fellows put their brains to work in creating pieces about the world around them. Armed with a vast array of worldviews and topics, as well as a desire to create change and find solutions, the fellows set about researching and writing. Their works are collected in a special edition of The Colloquium magazine, entitled “Shift.”

Scheduling

During the original FLAP, fellows had access to live sessions where they could interact with their peers and course leaders, as well as receive help on things they struggled with. There, they also participated in group activities and lessons. Most fellows participated in each of the three courses.

During FLAP, both fellows and course leaders alike put their brains to work, telling the stories of issues and things they were passionate about. They created art pieces and took photographs, they researched and wrote articles. The culmination of all of this is this special issue of The Colloquium, entitled "Shift."

"This program really opened my eyes on how the world works and I’ve learned so many new skills." - FLAP fellow
"[FLAP] brought out my curious mind, a desire to help and grow from others and to work towards being an active and positive member in my community." - FLAP fellow
At the beginning of FLAP, we asked our fellows two questions:
  • What gifts can you bring to this group?
  • What do you need from the group to realize these gifts?
We compiled their answers into word clouds, and kept them as part of our community agreement.

At the end of FLAP, we asked the same questions in past tense:
  • What gifts were you able to bring to FLAP?
  • What were you able to gather from the group?
The answers had changed, but were no less positive. In fact, the camaraderie between the fellows was evident!
